Unintended Uses for Everyday Products

Written by Milan Jara on 23rd Jun 2015

We are creative people, and our creativity does not stop with incredible-looking ceilings. When you are creative, you try to be creative in everything to do with your life. To us, that includes finding unintended uses for everyday products. What you see as a tube of toothpaste we see as something we can use to shine our shoes. You would be surprised at just how fun it can be to find creative and practical uses for the products we see around us every day.

Toothpaste Shoe Polish

You can use any kind of toothpaste you want (even gel) to get your shoes looking their best. All you need to do is apply some toothpaste to a wet cloth, rub your shoes, and then rinse off the excess toothpaste with a clean, damp towel. For those stubborn stains, you can use your toothbrush: It works great and stays with the theme!

WD-40’s Amazing Uses

WD-40 was created by rocket scientists and is non-toxic. That means that it probably has more uses than just keeping your door hinges quiet, and it cannot harm you if you accidentally swallow a little. Some of the things you can do with WD-40 include:

  • Wax the floors
  • Remove lipstick stains from clothing
  • Clean the grease off of your stove
  • Clean the cooking surface of your grill

Of course, you should wipe off the excess chemicals and clean the grill with warm water and soap before using it, but like we said, it is non-toxic. Give WD-40 a try as a wall cleaner as well: If you have scuffs or marks on your wall, they will disappear.

Dress Up Your Walls With Plastic Wrap

If you plan on glazing your walls anytime soon, then you can use plastic wrap to go the extra mile and create a unique faux finish. The type of look you get will depend on the color you are using. If your walls are black or dark brown, then the end result will look like leather. All you need to do is take a piece of plastic wrap and place it over top of the wet glaze on your wall and then remove it. When you pull the plastic away, you will get a contoured look to your walls that looks pretty cool. To get the whole wall looking that way, you need to keep placing a piece of plastic over it and removing it until the whole wall is done: In other words, no dilly-dallying, or the glaze will dry and your look will be incomplete.

Plastic wrap can add texture to your walls, and toothpaste can be used to shine your shoes. Now that you have uncovered all of these mysteries of your household items, it is probably making you wonder what else you can do with the things you find around your house. We encourage you to be safe and smart with any item in your home. Be very careful when handling sharp objects, and always read the warnings on any chemical container before you use it. It is fun to be creative, but it is even more fun to be safe and healthy.
