Historic Georgia Theater Ceiling Tiles Help Restoration

Written by Milan Jara on 1st Sep 2012

The Dublin Theater in Dublin, Georgia, is a historic movie theater that was built in 1934 during the golden age of Art Deco. The theater is such a treasure that it is listed on the online registry of historic movie theaters at cinematreasurers.org as well as on the placestogobuildingstosee.blogspot.com website.

Like many 1930s-era cinemas, the Dublin was often neglected over the years and fell into disrepair. But now, thanks to the efforts of a small group of Georgia music and art fans, the theater is being restored to its former glory and transformed into a performing arts theater. At this historic Georgia theater, ceiling tiles are definitely helping in the restoration process. Decorative Ceiling Tiles is proud to play a part in this historic rebirth.

Whirligigs Tile In Antique Gold

The restoration group is using our 106 Whirligigs faux tin ceiling tile in Antique Gold to restore the ceiling of the lobby to the brilliance of its heyday. The golden glow and three-dimensional design of the Whirligigs tiles fits in perfectly with the Art Deco look and feel of the theater. An added benefit is that the faux tin material is Class A fire-rated, an important consideration for any public location.

Just In Time

The lobby restoration is scheduled to be finished on September 7, only one day before the grand opening of the fall arts season, which will begin when the 620-seat theater plays host to the Atlanta Pops Orchestra on September 8.

In addition to musical performances, the restored theater will also host plays and exhibitions.

The Emerald City

Nicknamed “The Emerald City” for its connection to the Emerald Isle of Ireland, Dublin is host not only to the largest annual St. Patrick’s Day festival in the South, it is also home to the Dublin-Laurens County Museum, operated by the Laurens County Historical Society, which is located directly across the street from the theater.
