Measuring Your Windows for Vinyl Shutters
Unlike regular window shutters, decorative shutters accent your home vs. being a functional element that closes, protects, and helps regular airflow. The right width and height matter because they create a different visual effect for your home or client’s space.
Measuring the width:
To make the window stand out, pick shutters that are about 25% to 33% of your window’s total width, including the trim. The smaller size and width help the window’s design take center stage as the vinyl shutters are smaller and accent the window.
For a functional looking shutter that helps the facade of the house stand out and the windows and shutters complement the home, go with 50% of the size. By having the vinyl shutters balance the same size as the windows, they blend into the architecture instead of being a feature so the wall looks complete as one design vs. having individual features stand out. By having the windows blend into the wall, other features like an entryway or porch can become a focal point.
Measuring the height:
Vinyl shutters should be the same height as the window frame vs. using the 33% to 50% range with the width. If they are too short or too tall the windows will look off and unbalanced.
