Jim Neil envisioned a high-end library featuring a coffered ceiling of custom copper tiles bearing his own logo motif. Decorative Ceiling Tiles, Inc. worked closely with him at every stage — from concept to CAD rendering to full-scale sample production — to deliver a one-of-a-kind 25″ × 25″ solid copper tile for his personal library.
Project Goals & Client Requests
Create a tile featuring Jim’s personal logo motif with accurate relief depth and border proportions. Provide realistic renderings and two full-size samples (solid copper and aged copper) to help him decide on finish. Offer flexibility on finish (with or without clear coat) so he could age them himself if desired. Ensure tiles integrated seamlessly into his coffered ceiling layout and lighting scheme.
Our Process
- Concept to CAD:We converted Jim’s logo into a 3D CAD model showing relief depth and border proportions, previewing how it would repeat across the ceiling.
- Sample Production: We produced two full-size 25″ × 25″ sample tiles (solid copper uncoated and aged copper lacquered) to evaluate depth, finish, and tactile quality.
- Finish Flexibility: We offered uncoated solid copper so Jim could apply his own patina if desired.
- Precision Fabrication: After approval, our craftsmen pressed the final tiles in solid copper, ensuring crisp relief and consistent borders for flawless installation.
The Result
The completed ceiling transformed Jim Neil’s library into a showcase of bespoke craftsmanship. Each copper tile carries his emblem, producing a grid of light and shadow that feels timeless. The library’s green-and-gold marble floors echo the richness of the copper ceiling above, creating an immersive luxury environment.
