With Copper Comes Unique Character!

In architecture, copper is known for its durability, longevity and a finish that gets better over time.

It’s resistant to moisture, heat and daily wear, so it stands up to the toughest conditions other materials won’t work in including kitchens, bathrooms, basements and humid commercial spaces like kitchens, older buildings with outdated HVAC systems, and along the coast.

What makes copper truly special and worth the investment is its natural patina. The thin layer of colored compounds that gives copper ceiling tiles their signature look as they age. Being authentic metal ceiling tiles, when the material reacts with the environment, the surface slowly deepens in tone, creating a warm and rich color that transforms your ceiling while keeping an elegant and refined appeal if you do not go with the lacquered options. No two copper ceilings will ever look the same helping the ceiling to constantly evolve in a pleasing way that develops more character year after year.

Find the Right Copper Tile

Choosing the right tile is essential for a professional-looking ceiling. Drop-in tiles are designed for grid systems, while nail-up tiles are more permanent and attach to furring strips. The tile’s size is also important. Larger tiles come in a 24” x 48” size, having fewer joints, while our 24” x 24” tiles fit most ceiling grids. And last but not least, the finish you choose, from aged to lacquered will determine if you want your ceiling to evolve or remain the same.

Installation: What Works with your Ceiling

Drop-In

Designed for standard 24" x 24" ceiling grids found in basements and commercial interiors, these tiles install quickly and create a professional finish that conceals wires, pipes, and other overhead utilities while keeping them easily accessible.

Nail-Up

Nail-up copper ceiling tiles attach directly to furring strips that are secured to the ceiling. This makes them a great choice when you don’t want a visible ceiling grid.

Two Sizes to Choose From

There are two standard sizes of copper ceiling tiles at 24” x 24” and 24” x 48”, unlike tin ceiling tiles that have 21” x 16”, 24” x 24” and 24” x 48”. So when you build your own custom grid, you'll want to keep these dimensions in mind. Here's how to choose between the two sizes so you buy the right size for your space.

  • 24" x 24":24” x 24” tiles is the most common size and go-to tile for many spaces, including offices, schools and commercial spaces. It works well for both bold and simple patterns.
  • 24" x 48":24” x 24” tiles are twice the length, something to take into consideration if you use the drop-in installation method, making sure it fits the grid. The rectangular shape works well in hallways or large open spaces, for both aesthetic and practical reasons, as you get fewer joints and installation is faster.

Choosing the Right Finish

If you or your client are unsure of which type of copper ceiling tile to choose or the finish, here’s a table that shares how each option either maintains its luster or changes as time passes.

Finish What it means Best for what rooms
Solid Copper Starts bright, patina will slowly develop Dining rooms, where the patina will slowly show
Aged Copper Patina has already started to develop Offices or libraries, where the patina adds character
Lacquered Will stay bright, no patina will develop Kitchen and Bathrooms, protected against humidity
Aged + Lacquered Parina has already started to develop, but won’t change any further Boutiques and restaurants, where it adds warmth
