A Picture’s Worth a Thousand Words

Written by Milan Jara on 9th Sep 2011

The old saying is that ” a picture is worth a thousand words” and if that’s true, then for a DIYer a video might well be worth about ten thousand. If you’re an aspiring home improvement DIYer, you’ve probably spent a lot of time reading books, magazines, and even browsing Internet sites trying to figure out the best way to do your next project. The only problem is — if you haven’t attempted the job before, it can sometimes be very difficult to follow along with the writer’s description of how the project should proceed and if you have done the job before, you can probably follow along with the writer’s steps, but you really don’t need the basics — you’re looking for some advanced tips.

DIY Styrofoam Decorative Ceiling Tiles

The technology of the Internet combined with a video camera can assist beginning DIYers understand how to tackle a project and those with a few jobs under their tool belts work more efficiently and safely. There are now videos posted online for just about any home improvement project you can imagine and probably more than a few that you can’t, but the secret is knowing which are posted by contractors who know what they’re doing and which are someone simply wanting a little publicity.

One of the best methods for telling the difference is to look for DIY instructional videos posted on a company or retailer’s website rather than a site where everyone and their brother can post their videos. Some good examples are the instructional videos posted on DecorativeCeilingTiles.net. The videos have been reviewed for accuracy for the owner of the company who happens to also be a contractor with numerous ceiling tile installations on his resume.

Install Faux-Tin Decorative Ceiling Tiles

The company has posted videos on how to install styrofoam ceiling tiles, how to cover a popcorn ceiling, how to glue up faux-tin ceiling tiles, how to decorate a drop ceiling with faux-tin ceiling tiles, and how to install a drop-in faux-tin ceiling. The videos are easy to understand and follow and are a great resource for both beginning and experienced DIYers. They also demonstrate how easy it can be to cover an old ceiling with new decorative tiles that can give the room a complete and attractive transformation. It’s my understanding that the site intends to post more videos in the future so if the project you have planned isn’t featured, check back on a regular basis. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but a video might be worth ten thousand — especially if you’re a DIYer.
