Clear Coating Colorado Steel Rusted Patina

A frequently asked question is, "How do I add a clear coat to the rusty patina of my Colorado Steel product?" in addition. Because the Rusted patina is pre-rusted with an all-natural, accelerated rust treatment, it makes it harder to add a clear coat solution to it.

To accomplish this, you must first neutralize the patina of the rust. To neutralize and apply a clear coat to rusted Colorado Steel products (tiles, siding, panels, J-rails, etc.). Here are few steps:

Step 1

Step 3

Rinse the plate well and dry it.

As soon as the panel dries, you can clearcoat the panels. If the panel is too rusty, use a brush to scrape off some of the rust to expose some of the bare steel to add color.

Step 5

Apply 1 or 2 coats of Rust-Oleum 2x Painters Touch Ultra Cover Matte Clear Coat. This particular type is two coats in one, but some people choose to give them extra coats to suit their tastes and preferences. There are other similar brands, but make sure they stick to the metal. You can also get these in gallon type container to apply with a paint sprayer.
