Fun Additions For Your Child’s Ceiling
Written by Milan Jara on 6th Jan 2015
In our years of creating and installing ceilings, my wife and I have found that children have some of the most active imaginations in the world. When we create a ceiling for a child’s room, we know that we have more freedom to think outside the box than we do with an adult’s bedroom.
Over the years, we have developed a few favorite designs for a child’s bedroom that we have used a few times. While we love to be creative, we have also learned that sometimes you should just stick to what works, especially when your client is a child.

It is difficult for an adult to appreciate ceiling decals because adults don’t see vast universes and surging oceans when they look at their bedroom ceilings. Decals that follow a specific theme for a child’s bedroom offer a fun enhancement to the ceiling that can make the room more fun.
If you want to bring out the creativity in your child, then give them the walls and the ceiling of their bedroom as a canvas to work with. Few things are more entertaining to a child on a rainy summer day than being able to put magnetic characters up on their walls and ceilings that create elaborate landscapes and scenes. Magnetic wallpaper comes in a variety of colors and patterns and is surprisingly easy to install. It also can grab a child’s imagination for hours and never let it go.
When kids are really young, they are usually fascinated with the same things. Little boys love trucks and frogs, while little girls love soft, furry animals and being with their friends. But when you can bring the stars from the sky right into a child’s bedroom, then you have just crossed a gender gap that is extremely hard to cross. We have done everything from accenting ceilings with glow-in-the-dark star fields to a child’s favorite cartoon character, and they all make a child’s eyes light up in the same manner.
Flower Ceiling Fan
Here is one for the little girls, and it is always something that is appreciated. We love accenting a girl’s bedroom with a ceiling fan that is designed to look like a flower because the fan looks like it comes alive whenever it is turned on. We always make sure that the petals of the flower are done in colors that match the rest of the room, and it usually works best when the ceiling is a solid color because that really allows the flower to stand out.
Kids love magic, and when you turn on a projection unit in a dark bedroom and the images light up the ceiling, then there is no better night light in the world. We have installed light fixtures over ceiling lights that create moving star fields, and we have also installed projection units in other parts of a bedroom that cast images all over the ceiling. A young child experiences nothing but wonderment and magic when those lights hit the ceiling, and that makes it all worth it.
We are creative for a living, so we are constantly looking for new ways to put smiles on children’s faces. When we can find a way to make a child’s bedroom ceiling magical, then we know that we have done our job very well.
