Are you looking for a metal look but don't want to spend a fortune? You have found just that, Faux Tin Ceiling Tiles are used in homes, restaurants, hotels, movie theathers and they are also loved by Photographers who use them for Photography Backdrops. Solid Aged Copper is 5 times more expensive than the Faux Tin. Our tiles are 2ft x2 ft and they are only about 7 oz in weight. They are also class "A" fire rated and because they are made from virgin PVC they are recyclable. Most people prefer Faux Tin for its cost effectivness compare to real metal, but that is not the only reason, Metal Tiles if not perforated can add an undesired echo effect, PVC tiles do not. Also cutting the real tin is little more difficuilt We carry glue on and drop in Faux Tin Ceiling Tiles which can be easily cut with regular pair of scissors. Glue on, meaning that they can be glued to any flat surface, such us, drywall, plywood etc. Drop in as to be dropped into a grid system also known as supsended ceiling system.
How to use Faux Tin Ceiling Tiles
People are always coming up with new ideas on how to use our products but the main use for our tiles is to install them either gluing them over a flat surface or to drop them into a grid system. Since 2007 I have personally installed several of these ceilings with the help of my wife and in some cases my friends. I knew that it would be a good idea to make some decent instructinal video which actually show step by step instructions.
Gluing Them to a Flat Ceiling
There are complete installation instructions on another part of our website but just to give a quick idea what you will need for you project.
Things You'll Need
Flat and Stable Surface Ceiling (free of dust, dirt, spider webs and everything else that somhow ended up there)
A Ladder - unless you are relly tall, you will need one of these to comfortable reach the ceiling.
Measuring Tape - you need to measure walls and figure out your starting point, without a measuring tape you will not be able to do this important part. You also need one to measure the tiles that will be cut for the perimeter of the room.
Pencil - is always important when you are doing and DIY project to mark your starting points, make notes of the measurement etc.
Scissors - regular pair of decent larger rather than smaller scissors will take care of the cutting of the tiles.
Contact Cement - is what will hold the your faux tin ceiling tiles in place for years to come. Get the Original Formula from DAP, it comes in a red can and it is available in any hardware store. Read the instructions on how to use it and follow them.
Chalk Line - I have almost forgot about the Chaulk Line. This tool consist of a string in a little box and a chaulk. You will need Chalk to put in your box before you start chalking lines. It is a good idea, after you insert the chaulk to shake the chalk box for a little while to make sure that you have a nice full line. This tool will help you to create the lay out.
Trow Away Brushes - unfortunately you will end up trowing the brushes that will be used for applying The Contact Cement away.
Hot Dog Rollers - They may be called something else but the size and look reminds me of Corn Dogs. They are made out of sponge foam and will serve you to apply the glue to the large areas.
Rags & Paint Thinner - It is always a good idea to have a rag handy when you are working with contact cement. DO NOT USE THE THINNER ON THE TILES, IT WILL DAMAGE THE SURFACE.
Small Container or a Bucker - It is not requier but it might be helpful to have a small bucket for litte bit of contact cement so you do not have to carry a tray.
Paint Tray - Could be called Contact Cement Tray as that is what you will use it for. Don't foget the liners.
Roll of a Paper or Drop Cloths - Allthought you may be very careful with your install and it may not happen to you but the glue may drip onto your Persian Carpet :-) and ruin it, so it is always a good idea to have your surfaces covered.
Work Bench - I can imagine that you will not buy a work bench for a 5x8 bathroom project but to have a work space such as Saw Horses with a plywood on top will make things easier.
I believe that most of things that you will need to glue your Faux Tin Ceiling Tiles succesfully to your ceiling have been covered and now is time for a video demostration of how it gets done.
