Roll Out the Barrel with Decorative Ceiling Tiles

Written by Milan Jara on 1st Feb 2012

When these Texas folks moved into their new Houston home, they realized their barrel-vaulted ceilings were blank and dull, so they decided to improve the the long, narrow, cylindrical surfaces with decorative ceiling tiles. They wanted a rustic look but were too busy to paint or install the tiles themselves.

Special Effects

To the rescue came James Storey from Spiritus—The Art of Faux, who hand-painted our 210 faux tin ceiling tiles. James says, “The client wanted a crusty tin look, so we painted the tiles and used three different colors of glazes to achieve the timeworn, rustic look.”

Three of the most striking examples can be seen in the entry hall, the kitchen, and the bedroom.

A Warm Welcome

A Warm Welcome

The entrance to your home is the introduction to your house. As the first thing visitors will see, the entry hall should be warm and welcoming, like this one.

Decorations of natural browns, feathery green plants, and beautiful glass double doors give this entry way the feeling of a greenhouse atrium. The spectacular arch above the doorway adds to the sophisticated look.

When the sun isn’t glowing through the large glass windows and doors, the soft light from the gorgeous wood-look sconces provide an ambiance of warmth and welcome.

Kitchen

This long, narrow barrel ceiling was a blank canvas. Fortunately, these customers found the perfect media and artist for it in our tiles and James’ creative techniques.

The coffee-colored hand-painted tiles were easily installed around the great ceiling fan, a must-have to conserve energy during those humid East Texas summers.

Beautiful and Restful

Beautiful and Restful

The bold contrasting chocolate and beige stripes lend an air of sophistication to the bedroom.

The requisite ceiling fan twirls gracefully over the comfortable bed with its sturdy wooden headboard, where fluffy pillows invite visitors to rest their weary heads. A bedspread decorated with striking curved designs adorns the bed while flounced valences with matching chocolate piping deck the windows. Black shades on the bedside lamps finish off a look that is rustic while at the same time sophisticated.

All three rooms turned out to be showpieces. The client was thrilled with the beautiful rustic look, and you will be, too, if you call James Storey at Spiritus—The Art of Faux at (281) 804-6325. If you’re not in Texas, don’t worry—just call James and he will do his best to make arrangements to paint the tiles and send them to you.
